Last week, Samsung released the April 2023 security update in the US, Europe, and Latin America, featuring the Image Clipper feature in the Gallery app. Now, the company has released a huge software update to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra in India, and it brings camera improvements and the latest security patch.
What's new with Galaxy S22 April 2023 security update?
The latest software update for the Galaxy S22 series, which is rolling out in India, comes with firmware version S90xEXXU4CWCE and has a download size of around 1.6GB. Yes, that is a huge update by Samsung's standards. The changelog of the update just mentions improvements to Camera and Gallery apps, along with improved security. However, going by the update's size, we expect it to bring further camera optimizations and the Image Clipper feature that was earlier limited to the Galaxy S23 series.
The Image Clipper feature in One UI 5.1's built-in Gallery app lets you separate a subject from the background in any image. To achieve this, the smartphone uses AI processing. You can then save that extracted (clipped) subject in the Gallery or share it in other apps like WhatsApp as a sticker.
The April 2023 security patch included in this update fixes over 60 security flaws found in Samsung smartphones and tablets.
If you have a Galaxy S22 series smartphone in India, you can download the new software update on your device by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware from our firmware database and flash it manually using the Odin software via a PC running Windows OS.
Thanks for the tip, Sam Shuvam!
