The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is the talk of the town at the moment. Thanks to the overall package these devices offer, they are arguably the best Android smartphones your money can buy. At present, the Galaxy S22 series comes with an eSIM feature enabled in the US. However, the eSIM support for Google Fi isn't available in these latest flagships.
Cut to now, according to a product expert on the Google Fi subreddit, a future update will allow the Galaxy S22 series to use the Google Fi network without a physical SIM card on the latest Samsung Galaxy S22 series.
If you currently own any of the Galaxy S22 series models, i.e., the Galaxy S22, S22+, or the Galaxy S22 Ultra, then you are required to use a physical SIM card from the Google Fi network to use it.
A system-level update would require Samsung to enable the eSIM support
As of now, the Google Fi app doesn't recognize the eSIM support on the Samsung flagships. Moreover, there is no option in Samsung's software to directly support Google Fi either. In contrast, the Google Pixel series has had the eSIM feature in the settings menu for quite some time.
The Product Expert stated twice that Google Fi eSIM support on the Galaxy S22 series will be enabled via an update. The update is expected to arrive sometime in the future. There is no clarity regarding when the update will roll out. Besides, if it's a system-level update, then it's up to Samsung to enable eSIM support.
