Update: Now that users have installed the June 2023 update on their Galaxy S23 series phones, some of the changes that Samsung brought have been confirmed (via @theonecid). Here is a list:

  • There is now a 2x zoom option in the camera app's Portrait mode.
  • The camera autofocus issue has been solved.
  • The camera's Night mode processing is slightly different than earlier.
  • One UI animations and transitions are now smoother.
  • There are subtle improvements in the haptics.

Galaxy S23 users have been patiently waiting for their phones to get the June 2023 security update, as it was rumored that the update would bring major camera improvements. However, the update was delayed, and various other entry-level, mid-range, and high-end phones already received the update.

Now, the Galaxy S23 series has finally started getting the awaited software update.

Galaxy S23 finally gets camera-improving June 2023 update

The latest software update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra comes bearing firmware version S91xBXXU2AWF1. The update has a massive file size of around 2.2GB, which hints at some major improvements that could be included in it. The new software update is currently available in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. It could become available in various other Asian and European countries over the next few days.

While Samsung hasn't mentioned it in the official changelog, this new software update is expected to include various camera improvements. Those improvements include HDR-related improvements that Samsung confirmed a few weeks ago. This improvement fixes halos around objects in images.

If you have a Galaxy S23 series device in any of the countries mentioned above, you can check for the new update. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database once it is available, and then flash it manually using a Windows PC and the Odin tool.
