Upgrading to a new flagship phone every year has never made financial sense, and it's especially true right now given how flagship phones no longer bring a lot of major hardware upgrades.
Smartphone manufacturers are putting more of a focus on the software experience, and for the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung's entire marketing campaign is based on Galaxy AI, a suite of AI features that enhance your productivity and make tasks like photo editing more useful and fun.
But as we said in our Galaxy S24 Ultra review, the AI features aren't must-haves for most users, and they shouldn't be the only reason to upgrade to an S24 series phone. That is particularly true for those who own a Samsung flagship that launched in 2023, as those devices are confirmed to get the S24's AI features later this year.
The full list of devices includes the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra, all of which are confirmed to get the Galaxy AI experience through an update in the first six months of 2024.
Some features may remain exclusive to the Galaxy S24, but we're not expecting that list to be too long as Samsung's 2023 flagships are all mighty capable of powering those AI features without breaking a sweat.
Even the flagship devices that launched in 2022 are capable, as evidenced by the inclusion of the Galaxy S23 FE on the eligibility list despite it featuring the Snapdragon and Exynos chips that powered the non-FE Galaxy S22 trio, suggesting that Samsung is only excluding pre-2023 devices to make sure Galaxy S24 sales are not affected.
