According to multiple leaks, Samsung is developing two new Galaxy Tab A-series tablets: Galaxy Tab A9 and Galaxy Tab A9+. So far, these two tablets have been certified by multiple agencies. The existence of these devices was even confirmed by Samsung's support pages. However, there was no official information about their launch time frame. Well, that’s changing today. Samsung has finally teased the Galaxy Tab A9 and, more importantly, revealed the launch date of the tablet for the Indian market.

Samsung has posted two banners on Amazon India's website to tease an upcoming tablet. One says, “New Galaxy Tab Coming Soon,” and the other says, “Unveiling on 5th Oct”. While the tech giant hasn’t mentioned the name of the upcoming tablet on these banners, the category section on the website reveals that these banners belong to the Galaxy Tab A9. Upon digging deeper, we found that the names of both teaser images mention Galaxy Tab A9 as well, confirming that Samsung is indeed talking about the Galaxy Tab A9.

Apart from confirming that Galaxy Tab A9 is launching in India on October 5, 2023, these banners also reveal a few features of the tablet. The first banner shows a silhouette of the device, which has a stylus placed beside the tablet. That means the Galaxy Tab A9 might come with an S Pen. The other banner shows a blurred image of the tablet, which reveals that the Galaxy Tab A9 has a single camera on the back and even-sized bezels on all sides of the screen.

Galaxy Tab A9 features and specifications

According to the FCC certification of the tablet, the Galaxy Tab A9 will be 210.7mm tall and 124.7mm wide. Unfortunately, the screen size of the tablet is still unknown. Going by the dimensions, however, we expect it to be around 8.7 inches. The certification platform also reveals that the Galaxy Tab A9 will have a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging speed. Going by the model number mentioned in the certification (SM-X115), we expect the tablet to be available with 4G connectivity (as an option).

The listing of the device on Google Play Console reveals that the Galaxy Tab A9 features the MediaTek MT8781 chipset. The details about this SoC are scarce at the moment, but multiple reports suggest that it could be a modified version of the Helio G99. The Google Play Console certification also reveals that the tablet has 4GB RAM and runs on Android 13 (One UI 5.1). It even says that the display of the tablet has a resolution of 1,340 x 800 pixels. So, don’t expect the screen to be all that sharp.

Currently, there’s no information about the price of the Galaxy Tab A9 for India. However, considering that Samsung had launched the Galaxy Tab A8 in India for INR 17,999, we expect the Galaxy Tab A9 to be priced under INR 20,000 in the country. At that price point, the upcoming model from Samsung will compete with the Redmi Pad and Lenovo Tab M10. On a similar note, Samsung hasn’t mentioned anything about launching the Galaxy Tab A9+ in India. Maybe this model will come at a later date.
