The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is bringing a major design upgrade. It will have a cover screen that is much bigger than the ones on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Reports suggest that Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a 3.4-inch cover screen that spans most of its front, and the company is making most important apps accessible from the cover screen.
A few days ago, we mentioned in our exclusive report that Samsung has worked with Google to bring important apps, including Google Maps, to the cover screen. Now, another reliable tipster (@chunvn8888) has confirmed that Google Maps will indeed be accessible from the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, it still isn't clear if the whole app will be accessible on the cover screen (like on the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra) or if Google Maps will just display important navigation updates on it.
Important Google and Samsung apps could be accessible from Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover screen
Apart from Google Maps, other Google apps, including Messages and YouTube, could also be accessed on the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover screen. Samsung's own stock apps could also make an appearance on the cover screen. The company already has a variety of widgets that can be accessed on its existing Galaxy Z Flip series phones. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also the first Galaxy Z Flip series phone to feature Samsung DeX, but it could be available only wirelessly.
While flip-style phones from OPPO and Vivo have bigger screens, they can only display information through widgets. At most, they let users access the camera. However, Motorola's Razr series of phones lets users access all the apps. The Razr 40 Ultra, though, has two cutouts on the cover screen to accommodate the cameras, and they hide some important parts of apps, which is unintuitive. Hopefully, Samsung would do a better job than Motorola in that regard.
