The durability of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 speaks for itself. A live fold test that compared the device with its closest competitor, the Motorola Razr 40, has already shown that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is in a class of its own.
While the hinge and the screen have both borken on the Razr 40, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is still going strong. The people running the test are now trying some rather interesting methods to test the durability, and so far the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is just humiliating the competition.
Galaxy Z Flip 5 keeps its cool even in extremely high temperatures
As we've previously covered, the Motorola Razr 40's hinge suffered its first issue at the 40,000 fold-unfold mark whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 5 didn't even break a sweat. By 64,000 folds, the Razr's hinge had started creaking badly. The hinge gave up shortly after and even the screen broke at just over 126,000 folds.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has crossed 200,000 folds and unfolds without any problems. This is the limit that Samsung advertises but as we can clearly see, the device is far more durable than even Samsung advertises. The test was made even more interesting at the 275,000+ fold-unfold mark, where the testers decided to go through the motions in a heated food display case.
The contraption reached a maximum temperature of over 73°C and yet the Galaxy Z Flip 5 kept folding and unfolding without any issues. The hinge didn't fail and the display didn't melt. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 carried on without literally breaking a sweat. This goes to show just how impressive the new foldable phone is, that you can even use it without any issues in temperatures in excess of 70°C. However, if you happen to find yourself somewhere where the temperature is 70°C, this will be the least of your worries.
The test is still ongoing and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 refuses to give up even though it has been folded and unfolded more than 277,500 times. If you had any concerns about pre-ordering the Galaxy Z Flip 5, surely this will address them all.
