Galaxy Z Flip 5 is slimmer, but it still offers plenty of storage!

In case you haven't already heard it a million times already, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the main attraction among Samsung's new flagship devices that launched late last month. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 brings a number of upgrades for a better experience over outgoing models, including a fancy cover display, a faster and more efficient Snapdragon chip, and some design improvements that make it slimmer than its predecessor.

It's usually suspected that for a device to shed some of its heft, there may have been some compromises in terms of the tech that it brings. This typically manifests in the form of reduced internal storage or a smaller battery. Fortunately, that's not the case with the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Story continues after the video

Galaxy Z Flip 5 is noticeably slimmer than its predecessor

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is 15.1mm thin, a marginal yet noticeable improvement over the Galaxy Z Flip 4 that measures 15.9mm. Samsung has been able to achieve this largely due to the new hinge. The advanced structure of the hinge not only uses fewer moving parts, so it's more durable, but it also allows reduces the panel gap between the two halves of the device.

The slimmed down hinge enables the device to fold more compactly without any sacrifices having to be made elsewhere to achieve this. It has the same battery capacity as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and doesn't make any cuts in the storage department, either. On the contrary, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 isn't offered in the 128GB configuration as last year's model.

You can buy the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with 256GB or 512GB of onboard storage. Since it doesn't have a microSD card slot, your options for expansion are limited. You can either opt for cloud storage or invest in a USB-C storage drive. Either way, the internal options are going to be more than enough for most users.
