A new foldable flip phone from Samsung is underway. The Korean tech giant announced the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in Seoul earlier today and confirmed pricing and availability details. Whether or not you pre-registered for the device for a chance to earn $50 in Samsung Credit, here's all you need to know about how much the Galaxy Z Flip 5 costs and when you can buy one.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is now available for pre-order in select markets. The pre-order window will stay open until August 11, when the device will start shipping to customers.
It may seem pricier, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 got cheaper
Samsung has set a starting price of $999 / £1,049 for the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Seemingly, the company increased the flip phone series' launch price from £999, but that's not entirely accurate. Technically speaking, the new foldable flip phone is cheaper.
To elaborate, the only reason why the Galaxy Z Flip 5 seems more expensive than the previous model is that Samsung no longer offers a 128GB storage option, which used to cost £999. Instead, the Z Flip 5 starts at 256GB. And given that the 256GB Galaxy Z Flip 4 went on sale for £1,059, the Z Flip 5 with the same storage configuration now costs £10 less.
There's also a 512GB storage option for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which starts at £1,149. Again, this is a lower price than the 512GB Galaxy Z Flip 4's, which Samsung released last year for £1,199.
The 2023 model goes on sale on August 11, and customers who pre-order the phone can get a discount of up to £650 when trading in an old smartphone (in select markets). In addition, during the pre-order period, buyers can get the 512GB Galaxy Z Flip 5 for the price of the 256GB model.
And last but not least, Samsung is trying to give foldable phone fans peace of mind with its Care+ premium support service. As a result, pre-order customers get special discounts and free benefits on Care+ in select markets.
