Samsung's foldable phones are improving but at a snail's pace. While Chinese brands are bringing advanced features and hardware improvements with each new generation of their foldable phones, Samsung is being cautious.
One of the most requested improvements that users have been demanding from Samsung is reducing screen crease visibility. The South Korean firm may be finally ready to bring that improvement with the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 might use thicker glass to reduce screen crease
According to a report from TheElec, Samsung has decided to use a thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) on the Galaxy Z Flip 6's foldable screen. Compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 5's UTG, which has a thickness of 30 microns, the Galaxy Z Flip 6's UTG is claimed to be 50 microns thick.
This increase in thickness is said to make the screen crease less visible and improve the display's durability. You can see how visible the crease is on the Galaxy Z Flip 5's foldable screen in our video below.
Apart from reducing the visibility of the screen crease, improved durability is also a positive change. Since foldable phones are new and have many moving parts, higher durability will always be welcomed.
If this information is accurate, Samsung will finally be able to compete with Chinese brands, offering phones with much brighter screens with a less visible crease. The phone is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, an improved primary camera, and a bigger battery.
The report also claims that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will use the same waterdrop hinge as the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Next year, though, Samsung could reportedly use a new UTG structure and hinge.
Those improvements could further reduce the visibility of the screen crease and make bezels around the display thinner.
