Samsung made a few intriguing claims regarding the durability of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 at Unpacked. The new foldable phone has a 10% stronger Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus all around the exterior, a new foldable display protective film offering 80% higher durability, and an IPX8 water resistance rating to boot. It all sounds very promising, but how do these characteristics come together in practice? Surprisingly well, actually!
Allstate recently tested the Galaxy Z Fold 3's durability and water resistance capabilities by dropping the foldable flagship face-down and face-up on hard concrete, and of course, by dunking the phone in water and keeping it submerged for 30 minutes.

According to Allstate's findings, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the most durable foldable mobile device to date. When dropped open, face-down on hard concrete from a height of six feet, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 survived without issues. Not once, but twice!
Likewise, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 survived under five feet of water for 30 minutes, proving Samsung's water-resistance claims right.
And finally, the phone did get a beating from being dropped on concrete while folded shut. The Cover display shattered like a regular, non-foldable panel would, rendering it unusable. But at the end of the day, these results are still very positive. Not to mention that most glass-wrapped candy bar phones today are very prone to taking damage from drops.
We've seen Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3 durability claims put to the test in another recent video, though that was more of a torture test designed to break devices and scratch screens of any kind — foldable or no. On the other hand, Allstate's durability tests for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 reflected real-life usage scenarios more accurately, and the results are quite impressive. So, if you were worried about the durability of Samsung's latest foldable flagship, well, it turns out it's very resilient, especially for a foldable phone.
