Glance is working on bringing ads to Android smartphone lock screens across the United States, and Samsung Galaxy devices might not be exempt. According to rumors, Glance might launch its platform in partnership with US mobile network operators within the next two months.
Glance, a subsidiary of InMobi Group, delivers media, news, ads, and casual games on Android phone lock screens, particularly in Asian markets where the company has partnered with smartphone OEMs, including Samsung.
In the United States, however, Glance aims to collaborate with carriers rather than device makers. Network operators in the USA have a much stronger influence over the mobile market than elsewhere, and Glance seemingly aims to serve its content to Android lock screens through partner carriers.
When might Glance go live in the United States?
According to the recent report citing anonymous sources (via TechCrunch), Glance intends for its ad-delivery service to go live for Android lock screens “within two months.” However, no smartphone brands or carriers were mentioned.
Glance's delivered content and ads are tailored around the user's interests. And presumably, Android smartphone users will have the option to opt-out of the service and use the standard Android or Samsung One UI lock screen instead.
Nevertheless, if Glance is enabled by default, countless customers are expected to keep the ad-based lock screen turned on and not bother changing their settings. In essence, this would expose millions of Android smartphone users in the United States to a new, almost ubiquitous ad/content distribution network.
