Google could be bringing a Tile for Google Assistant on Wear OS smartwatches, including Galaxy Watches (Galaxy Watch 4 and newer) and the Pixel Watch. This new Tile might get added to the list of existing Tiles that Google has brought to Wear OS smartwatches over the past couple of years.
The folks over at 9To5Google have discovered several strings of code in Google Assistant's APK file for Wear OS, shining some light on Google's plans for its digital voice assistant. Some of those strings are listed below. These code snippets reveal that a Google Assistant Tile may let users set custom Google Assistant commands that can be activated with a single tap. Users may be able to pick from several pre-defined Google Assistant queries or create their own using voice or keyboard on Wear OS smartwatches.
<string name=”assistant_tile_title”>Assistant</string>
<string name=”tile_chip_add_assistant_action”>Assistant action</string>
<string name=”tile_edit_choose_a_suggested_action”>Choose a suggested action</string>
<string name=”tile_edit_create_your_own”>Create your own</string>
With the growing number of smart home devices and internet services that are compatible with Google Assistant, the upcoming Tile would be able to offer users a quicker way to access their favorite Google Assistant commands. The screenshot below shows two such examples of Google Assistant commands.
This upcoming feature will most likely also be released to the Galaxy Watches running Wear OS. It would be a good idea for Samsung to look at bringing a similar feature to Bixby and Modes & Routines.
