During Android 12L's announcement, Google promised it would make first-party apps better for large-screen Android devices like foldable phones and tablets. Since then, the company has released several improvements to its apps, and it is now improving Google Chrome for big-screen devices. This would help Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold phones and Galaxy Tab series devices.
Google is experimenting with a new design (spotted by AndroidPolice) for Google Chrome's tabs. The newer design uses a darker shade of colors for the tab that is currently being displayed. The other tabs don't have an outline to them, and they are separated using a thin vertical line. The earlier tab design used an outline for all the tabs (resembling tabs in a real folder), with the active tab using a lighter color scheme.
The new Google Chrome design also uses a newer Material You design language, using colors from your home screen wallpaper in the URL bar and to highlight the active tab. This new design can be activated in Google Chrome's 112 version (stable). You can activate this new design on your Galaxy Z Fold series smartphone by activating these flags: chrome://flags/#enable-tab-strip-redesign and chrome://flags/#enable-tab-strip-improvements.
Hopefully, Google will release this new tab design to everyone using an Android tablet or foldable smartphone without the need to activate experimental flags.
