Google's first-party apps are steadily gaining redesigned interfaces and UI changes that better adapt to the device's screen size. However, Google Drive didn't have an optimized design for Android tablets. Thankfully, that is changing as Google is rolling out a new update for the Google Drive app that brings a redesigned UI.
This new UI design brings a lot of the same interface changes that were previously made available for the Google Contacts app. The main highlight of the new Google Drive app update is that it now makes better use of the display area on your Samsung Galaxy and other Android tablets.
Speaking of the UI changes, the navigation bar on the Google Drive app for tablets has been repositioned and now appears on the left side of the screen. There is a button at the top of the navigation bar with which you can collapse or expand the contents of the bar. Below that, there is a Plus button, followed by the Home, Starred, Shared, and Files buttons.
New Google Drive app update shows more content on Android tablets' screens
The search bar at the top of the Google Drive app for tablets is now restricted to half of the screen width, starting from the left. Google has shared a side-by-side image of how the new UI looks compared to the older one. The Suggested and Notifications tabs are available in a new design but now take up less space on the screen than before.
With the better utilization of the display area of Android tablets, this new Google Drive app update also gets three additional icons at the top right. These are for Help, Settings, and the user's Google profile. Moreover, you will now be able to view more files on the homescreen, thanks to this new update. As per the official blog, Rapid Release domains are getting the update now. On the other hand, Scheduled Release domains will start receiving it on April 3, 2023.
