For many years we are hearing and reading that Google is going to kill the Hangouts app. Well, it seems like the company has finally done the inevitable as Google delists the Hangout app from both the Android and iOS stores. This means that you can no longer install or update the Google Hangouts app on your Samsung Galaxy phone either.
Folks at 9To5Google were the first to spot the app store change that happened sometime earlier today. In some regions, owners of Samsung and other Android devices are still seeing the Hangouts app listed on the Play Store. It seems like Google is currently in the process of shutting down the app everywhere. Moreover, those who already have the app installed on their phone might still be able to see the app listed on the Play Store.
If you are a fan of Google Hangouts and you really need it, then the good thing about Samsung and Android phones is that you can always sideload the app from trusted third-party sources. Besides, for the time being, you can also make use of the Hangouts web interface until Google completes the transition to Google Chat for everyone.
