In a few weeks, the foldable smartphone market will heat up with the debut of Google's first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold. Pixel Fold leaks have revealed that Google's foldable will have a wider outer display compared to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold smartphones, but as far as the design and look of the folding inner display are concerned, it seems the Pixel Fold won't hold a candle to a Galaxy Z Fold 4 or the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Big bezels look bad, but Google probably didn't get the memo
A Pixel Fold unit has made an early appearance in a video that leaked on Twitter, and it shows how Google has left some pretty big bezels around the folding display, giving off pretty serious Microsoft Surface Duo vibes (the Surface Duo isn't an actual foldable but has two separate displays). The bigger bezels could offer increased protection to the display, but they sure make the Pixel Fold look outdated compared to Samsung's foldables.

Whether or not that will stop Google fans from picking up a Pixel foldable remains to be seen, but we'd say Samsung isn't going to sweat too much once the Pixel Fold hits retail shelves. The boring design aside, Samsung also has the advantage of being active in more markets and being a lot more popular among general customers, though we would love it if Samsung could make the cover display on the Z Fold line a little bigger.
Unfortunately, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not expected to bring any major changes in display size, so anyone wishing for a larger Galaxy Z Fold is likely to be disappointed again this year. But if you're looking forward to the Z Fold 5, you might be able to pick one up sooner than expected, as rumors indicate Samsung could be launching its new foldables a litle early this year.
