The Google TV operating system has a section called Your apps on the home screen. It contains all the apps installed on the TV. Currently, this section shows rectangular-shaped icons. That is going to change soon. In a new post from Android Developers on Medium, Google has announced that the company will soon bring a redesigned home screen to Google TV that will show circular-shaped icons in the Your apps section.

Google has also posted an image that demonstrates the new design. Going by the image, it looks like apart from changing the shape of icons from rectangle to circle, the company has also reduced the size of icons. According to the tech giant, the new design change will allow the section to show more apps at once, which would be beneficial to users, as they can see more apps before having to scroll or click on the See all button.

Redesigned Google TV Home Screen

Currently, the Your apps section shows 12 apps before you need to scroll. In the image shared by Google, we can see 10 apps in the redesigned Your apps section. However, the image shows the home screen partially, which means that the section has more apps. Unfortunately, we don’t know how many.

According to Google, the new design of the home screen will arrive in 2024. However, an exact date for the roll-out is currently under wraps. Google has also asked developers to share a square-shaped icon of their apps. The OS will crop square icons to show them in a circle shape in the Your apps section.
