Google releases Weather app for Wear OS, but it’s nowhere as good as Samsung’s

The arrival of the Pixel Watch is bringing some great news for the Wear OS platform. To prepare for its launch, Google released two new apps—Google Home and Phone—for the platform, as well as the redesigned Google Keep app. The improvements don’t stop there. Google has now released a Weather app for Wear OS, and it is available for all smartwatches running Wear OS 3.0 (and newer). That means you can download it on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series.

The new app is very basic at the moment. You will be able to see the weather conditions of the current location, but there’s no option to check the forecast for any other area. Scrolling down will show you the weather predictions for the next eight hours, and if you scroll down even further, you’ll be able to see the weather forecast for the next five days. Then there’s an option to switch the temperature unit between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

There’s, however, more to the Weather app than what you see when you open it. The app brings a tile called Forecast, and as you might have already guessed, it shows you current weather conditions. The Weather app also brings two more complications to your watch faces, UV index and weather. Although the app has fewer features compared to Samsung’s Weather app, which shows more detailed weather information, Google at least seems to be on the right path to do what’s necessary to improve Wear OS.
