Humane has scheduled an event for later today (09 November 2023), where the company is expected to launch its first product: AI Pin. It is a wearable that attaches to your clothes and offers you a voice assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) among other things. While the event is just a few hours away, we have all the details about the Humane AI Pin, including its features and price, thanks to a new report from The Verge.

According to the documents the publication has come across, the Humane AI Pin costs $699. Plus, people will have to pay for a ‘Humane Subscription’ which costs $24 per month. The plan offers cellular connectivity to the device, allowing it to connect to the internet for performing various tasks, access to the voice assistant (which is based on AI models from Microsoft and Open AI), and cloud storage for storing photos and videos taken with the device. Reportedly, the cellular service is provided by a Humane-branded version of T-Mobile’s network.

Humane AI Pin features

According to The Verge, the Humane AI Pin is powered by a Snapdragon-series processor from Qualcomm. However, its model number is unknown. The wearable runs on an operating system called ‘Cosmos,‘ and various reports suggest that it is based on Android. The device reportedly features a camera, depth and motion sensors, and a microphone to record its surroundings and listen to voice commands. There’s also a speaker onboard which the company calls a “personic speaker”. You can even connect the device to Bluetooth headphones.

The Humane AI Pin doesn’t come with a screen but it has a projector that can project content in green color on your palm. The company showcased this feature at a TED event earlier this year. The Verge says that the device also has a touchpad somewhere. Reportedly, the device isn’t always listening for a wake word. Instead, you have to summon the voice assistant manually by pressing a button. The Humane AI Pin also has a ‘Trust Light,‘ which blinks whenever it is recording audio or video. You can access the recorded content on the ‘Humane.center.'

The publication says that the Humane AI Pin will ship with a charger and two ‘battery boosters'. At the moment, it isn’t clear what battery boosters are but we assume that they are some kind of charging case for the device for you to charge it on the go. As mentioned earlier, it offers you a voice assistant that can help you with many tasks. With the help of the inbuilt camera, it can also look things up for you, and take photos and videos, eliminating the need for you to take out your smartphone. Expect the brand to reveal more details at the event.

Author’s Note: Most people nowadays have a smartphone and a smartwatch, which offer all the functionalities and information they need. Having another device that offers functionalities similar to the ones provided by a smartphone and a smartwatch doesn’t make all that sense.

If Human AI Pin had a lower price tag, people would have still considered it, thinking that this device would eliminate the need for them to take out a smartphone or look at a smartwatch for many tasks. But spending $699 for the device and then paying $24 every month towards subscription fee for getting almost the same services as your other two devices might not make sense to most people. That being said, we can't say for sure how useful the device would turn out to be in real life until we get to know more about it.
