Samsung is rumored to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 earlier than expected. Reports suggest that the next-generation foldable phones from the company will be unveiled toward the end of July or early August. And Motorola is expected to launch its Galaxy Z Flip 5 competitor—Razr 40 Ultra—with a bigger screen in June, but that phone can't hold a candle to Galaxy Z Flip 5's performance.
Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be much more powerful than Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
According to newer reports, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra will come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, paired with 8GB/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a good chipset, and it powered the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, it is nowhere close to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that is expected to power the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The newer Snapdragon chipset has around 35% faster CPU performance and 25% faster GPU performance.
Moreover, as seen with the Galaxy S23 series, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is much more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It sips the battery rather than gulping it, so the phone loses less battery change during sleep, voice calls, and even GPS navigation. This is quite important in clamshell-style foldable phones as they have smaller batteries. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is expected to come equipped with a 3,640mAh battery, slightly smaller than the one inside the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Motorola Razr 40 Ultra specifications
Other features of the Razr 40 Ultra include a 120Hz OLED screen on the inside with Full HD+ resolution, a 3.4-inch cover screen (1,066 x 1,056 pixels), a 12MP primary camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 32MP selfie camera. It will come pre-installed with Android 13 out of the box and will get two major OS updates.
All in all, both phones appear well matched except for the Galaxy Z Flip 5's massive performance lead, longer software update policy, and the inclusion of wireless charging.
