Samsung began updating the carrier-locked Galaxy S21 series in the United States with a new security patch roughly one week ago. Now, it's time for the unlocked variants to steal the spotlight.
The unlocked Galaxy S21 (SM-G991U1), Galaxy S21+ (SM-G996U1), and Galaxy S21 Ultra (SM-G998U1) are now getting a new firmware update with the May 2022 security patch included.
Unlocked Galaxy S21 customers in the USA can identify the new update by firmware version G99xU1UEU5CVDC. The firmware version suggests that the update should include new changes and features aside from the 2022 security patch, but the changelog is missing as of this writing.
If you happen to own the unlocked Galaxy S21 in the United States, feel free to let us know in the comment section if you found any new additions after applying the update.
As for the latest security patch, it was detailed by Samsung a couple of weeks ago. The patch addresses vulnerabilities affecting Android OS and Samsung apps, including Weather, Galaxy Themes, and Setup Wizard.
If you're interested in acquiring the update, you can try to trigger the update process from the “Software update” section inside the “Settings” app on your phone. As usual, you can also download the official firmware files from our website and install the update manually using a PC.
