If you updated your Galaxy Z Flip 5 to One UI 6.1 and have been wondering why there are no AI wallpapers for the cover screen, you're not alone.
One UI 6.1 brings a lot of AI features to select flagship Samsung smartphones and tablets. As of April 22, Samsung has released One UI 6.1 for flagship devices launched in 2023, and in May, many of those AI features will be making their way to flagship devices launched in 2022.
Like One UI 5.1 or One UI 4.1, One UI 6.1 doesn't bring anything special for Samsung's foldable phones. The company only adds new foldable features in the .1.1 versions of One UI that debut with each new Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip.
Unfortunately, Samsung follows that tradition religiously, which might be why it didn't add support for One UI 6.1's generative wallpapers to the cover screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
That isn't completely surprising. Making generative wallpapers work on the cover screen of Galaxy Z Flip smartphones would require extra effort. Wallpapers that look fine on the main display won't fit the cover display the same way owing to the latter's considerably smaller surface area.
There is also the fact that the cover screens need to accommodate both the background/wallpaper and things like a clock and information such as battery charge. Still, this feels like a missed opportunity, and some Galaxy Z Flip 5 owners–and Z Flip 4 owners, once One UI 6.1 comes to Samsung devices launched in 2022–will probably be disappointed.
However, rumor has it that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will introduce some new AI features, and we're hoping AI wallpaper generation support for the cover screen is also on the cards. And if Samsung does add it to One UI 6.1.1, we can expect the feature to eventually be available for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 as well.
