Samsung has brought AI-powered spam text blocking to One UI 7 in South Korea. This feature has been developed in partnership with the Korea Internet Security Agency, and is available on Galaxy smartphones running the latest firmware update.
AI helps protect Samsung phone owners from illegal spam
The regulatory body had announced measures late last year to combact illegal spam that delivers malicious content to users' devices. This may often include illegal spam relating to loans, gambling, and adult goods.
This AI functionality automatically blocks numbers and spam characters, including links, that it deems to be illegal. This feature supplements the illegal spam blocking that mobile carriers in South Korea already offer. This two-pronged approach should go a long way in limiting the damage that this spam can cause.
Samsung has confirmed that this feature is currently available on the Galaxy S25 series, and that it will be released for other compatible devices once they receive the One UI 7 update. Samsung has already confirmed that the One UI 7 public release starts on April 7.
It's unlikely that this exact same feature would be released for other markets across the globe as well. However, it's possible that Samsung may develop a somewhat similar feature elsewhere, particularly in response to local regulatory bodies.
