OnePlus is almost ready to join the growing foldable phone market with a book-like device, whose strongest competitor will inevitably be the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The so-called OnePlus Open has now leaked, along with its price, and it's a spicy one — the price more so than the phone.
Because OnePlus used to be the face of affordable yet well-equipped Android phones, most industry watchers have expected the Open to cost $1,500 at most. Some even speculated that it might cost less than that, given that the OnePlus Open will likely be an Oppo N3 Fold clone, which is nothing too unusual since OnePlus is an Oppo subsidiary.
But according to a new leak (via @WinFuture), that's far from the purported truth. The leak solidifies that the OnePlus Open is an N3 Fold in disguise, but as far as the price is concerned, the Open will reportedly have a price of $1,699. The foldable device is expected to go on sale in the USA from October 19.

Here's what the OnePlus Open might have to offer
On the outside, the OnePlus Open looks identical to the Oppo N3 Fold, except for its 1+ badge. The device has a prominent circular camera housing, which supposedly features two 48MP wide and ultra-wide cameras and a 64MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom.
The OnePlus Open is said to carry a 6.31-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch foldable OLED supplied by BOE. On the inside, reports say that the OpenPlus Open features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, along with 256GB of onboard storage.
Sources say that OnePlus will also want to release the Open in European countries, except for Germany, where the brand is banned due to patent infringements on Nokia technologies. It's yet to be determined if the $1,699 price for the USA is tax-free and if the OnePlus Open will cost even more than that in Europe.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 costs $1,799 in the USA and €1,899 in most of Europe, but Samsung often offers discounts and free storage upgrades to 512GB in addition to a solid trade-in program.
