OnePlus is also making a Wear OS smartwatch, but it has a weird design

While Samsung was the first to launch a smartwatch running Wear OS 3, more brands are joining the competition. First, it was Google with the Pixel Watch, and now, it is Xiaomi and OnePlus. Yes, even OnePlus seems to be ready to launch its new smartwatch, and this time, it is using Wear OS 4 rather than its homegrown operating system.

OnePlus Watch 2 runs Wear OS 4

Now, we have the first look at what OnePlus‘ first Wear OS-based smartwatch could look like. The renders published by MySmartPrice show that the OnePlus Watch 2 has a weird design. While it has a 1.43-inch circular OLED screen and what looks like a metal chassis, there is a giant protrusion on the right side with a physical button on top of that protrusion. The protrusion might serve as a capacitive touch surface for scrolling, but that's just our assumption. It is most likely that the upcoming smartwatch has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The smartwatch will likely come with a silicon wristband with a standard connector. On the rear, the OnePlus Watch 2 has a heart rate sensor and pogo pin connectors for charging. There also appears to be a loudspeaker to receive and make voice calls. While it was earlier rumored that it could run rtOS, similar to the OnePlus Watch, tipster Max Jambor claims that the OnePlus Watch 2 indeed runs Wear OS 4. And that could probably be why it uses the 4nm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor instead of a weaker chip.

The watch will have a steel/silver-colored chassis and two watch strap color options: Black and White. The report claims that these renders have been made after looking at the prototype of the OnePlus Watch 2, and there could be some changes based on final adjustments to the design. If OnePlus' track record is anything to go by, the OnePlus Watch 2 could be launched in most important markets globally, including Europe, India, and the US, to compete with the Pixel Watch 2 and the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
