Are you tired of paying a recurring fee to take advantage of Microsoft Office and its suite of productivity apps and wish you could just pay once and get to use the product forever like you were able to do until a few years back?
Your wish will come true next year, according to an exclusive report by XDA Developers. Microsoft will be releasing Office 2024 next year and will offer a perpetual license for it, so both individuals and businesses will be able to pay a one-time fee for permanent access to the software.
The previous version to have a perpetual license option was Office 2021, and many had been wondering if it would be the last as Microsoft continues to increase its focus on cloud computing and cloud services under Satya Nadella's leadership. Microsoft is currently testing Office 2024 internally and will release it sometime in the third or fourth quarter next year for both Windows and Mac operating systems.
Office 2024 will reportedly come with a fresh coat of paint and some new features, though there's currently no info on what those new features will be. Speaking of features, remember that the pay-once model will mean you will not be able to access the latest Office functionality as quickly as those who will keep paying for a Microsoft 365 subscription.
And if you want to try out a preview version of Office 2024 right away, there is a way to access it. The process isn't an easy one and risks affecting your Microsoft Office license if you have one, and a virtual machine or secondary PC is recommended, so only do it if you're absolutely sure and have some technical knowledge.
