Popular podcast app Pocket Casts is arriving soon on Galaxy Watches and other Wear OS smartwatches. Pocket Casts app offered a smartwatch app during the Android Wear days. Now that the world has moved on to Wear OS, the multi-faceted podcast app will be available on Wear OS smartwatches soon.
According to the latest report, the Pocket Casts Wear OS app is actively in development because the developers open-sourced its mobile clients back in October 2022. Also, a project issue was spotted in GitHub's ‘Initial Release of Wear OS Watch App,' and the discussions for a Wear OS app started at the back end of last year.
Pocket Casts app for smartwatches could offer direct downloads
As noted on the GitHub page, the developers will focus on the watch app functioning independently of the phone. The ability to control Pocket Casts on the phone will be added after the initial release. Moreover, Pocket Casts is looking to replicate a whole bunch of features from the Pocket Casts iOS Watch app, at least during its initial phase.
The Pocket Casts iOS Watch app offers downloading capabilities to ‘Pocket Casts Plus' members only. So, this feature could also be available on the Wear OS app. Initial features that Pocket Casts is actively working on for the Wear OS app, include a Now Playing screen, browsing, and downloads.
Spotify has been a major player when it comes to streaming audio, including podcasts. YouTube Music will soon follow suit and update its app with podcast functionality. Since Wear OS 3 is used by so many users across the globe, it makes sense for the popular podcasts app, Pocket Casts, to arrive on the scene.
