A few days ago, Samsung announced a significant update to its SmartThings service. The new SmartThings Home Life feature combines six services—Air Care, Clothing Care, Cooking, Energy, Home Care, and Pet Care—to be a central part of Samsung's smart home ecosystem. Now, that update has been pushed to the company's flagship refrigerators.
With a new software update, Samsung's latest-generation Bespoke refrigerator lineup will get the SmartThings Home Life feature. As a part of that update, the refrigerator will get the Sommelier At Home feature, which was earlier limited to Samsung's wine refrigerators. This feature will be available to all Bespoke refrigerators and Bespoke Cube refrigerators.
The Sommelier At Home feature offers a way to arrange wines systematically and recommends dishes that go with those wines. Samsung's OCR feature, which uses the smartphone's camera, recognizes the wine name, country of origin, and the label's vintage through the SmartThings Home Life app. The company says that its database has information on more than 70,000 wines.
The new software update also brings enhanced user experience, SmartThings Home IoT Hub, and the ability to control ZigBee-based smart home devices through a separate dongle. Samsung says it will add the ability to use Bixby voice commands to tune to a particular channel on Samsung TV Plus. This feature will be released in July 2022.
Yu Mi-young, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said, “We have prepared this update so that consumers with existing refrigerators can enjoy the latest features through software upgrades. We will continue to provide the best experience through SmartThings Home Life updates.”
