Samsung gradually pushed a new software update for the BESPOKE washing machines in South Korea and Europe for models produced after 2021, which brings in an important feature. With the new update, washing machines can now use the ‘Microplastic Reduction Course,' which helps reduce cloth friction and microplastic generation by up to 60%.
As per the official blog, Samsung introduced the microplastic reduction course in collaboration with the global outdoor brand Patagonia in Europe in October 2022. This was installed in new washing machines produced in 2023 in South Korea. Apparently, the microplastic reduction course makes use of the BESPOKE washing machines' proprietary ‘EcoBubble' technology, which helps in reducing friction and microplastic generation.
Using this feature for one year will help reduce microplastic emissions by up to 49 grams/year. Besides, if all BESPOKE washing machines launched in Europe and South Korea use the microplastic reduction course, then it will help reduce up to 50 tons of microplastics per year. Users can easily update their Bespoke washing machines by tapping on the push notification on the product or using the SmartThings app on their phones. Apparently, since 2019, Samsung has updated its home appliances by 400 times.
Moreover, by the end of this year, Samsung also plans to bring new convenience features such as Refrigerator ‘AI Saving Mode' algorithm improvement and usability improvement, Dryer AI Saving Mode expansion application, and more.
