Samsung Display, the display manufacturing unit of Samsung Electronics, has announced that its 7-inch foldable OLED panel has completed the MIL-STD-810G tests. This compliance with a series of tests developed by the US Department of Defense proves that the new OLED panel from Samsung is extremely durable.

Samsung's latest-generation OLED panels are extremely durable

The latest-generation 7-inch foldable OLED panel from Samsung Display continued to work normally even under extreme duress for four hours. A 6mm layer of ice covered the panel after being sprayed with water at -10ºC. Moreover, the foldable OLED panel from the company continued to work without performance degradation even when the ambient temperature ranged from -32°C to +63°C for 2 hours each. This test was repeated three times over a period of 12 hours.

The new OLED panel from the South Korean display giant also continued to work after facing shock tests. It was dropped 26 times from a height of 1.22 meters while simulating real-world smartphone usage patterns. The panel was also subjected to 10.5G pressure through speed rotations. This proves that the panel continues to work normally, even during extreme activities and motions.

All those tests were performed by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Solutions, which is a global safety science company that was founded 130 years ago. The company didn't reveal whether or not the 7-inch OLED panel has been used in current-generation smartphones. It also didn't reveal if this panel has been used in any of the company's existing foldable Galaxy smartphones.
