Samsung's been on an impressive streak with the May 2021 security release for many of its Galaxy devices. Today, the company is bringing all the latest security fixes to two of its most flagship-like mid-range phones ever: the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A52 5G. Depending on your device, the new firmware version should be A525xXXU2AUE1 or A526BXXU2AUE1, with the rollout already underway in a more than a handful of markets, though mostly in the European continent at this time.
What's new in Galaxy A52 and A52 5G May 2021 update?
The changelog for the latest Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52 5G updates is pretty large. Samsung is promising Quick Share improvements and improvements to the touch screen's stability, camera performance, and call quality, although some of those were a part of the changelog for the previous update as well.
The actual highlight, then, is the addition of video call effects. This feature was recently introduced to the Galaxy A72 as well and lets you blur out or set a custom image as the background in video calls made over apps like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Duo. It can be accessed from the phone's Settings » Advanced features menu.
As usual, the update's rollout will be staggered, which means it may take a few days to arrive on your phone. However, you can manually check if it's available now by opening the phone's settings, navigating to Software update, and selecting Download and install. The latest firmware is also available in our archive and can be used to manually upgrade the Galaxy A52/A52 5G using a Windows PC.
