The Galaxy M55 recently became the first mid-range Samsung smartphone to support the company's 45W charging tech. After our review unit came in this week, we discovered that it's also the first Samsung phone ever to come with a 45W USB-C cable in the box.
While Galaxy phones no longer come with chargers in the box, Samsung does provide a USB-C cable with every device. That USB-C cable works with Samsung's 25W charger, but it can't charge devices at 45W.
Samsung's 45W charger comes bundled with a thicker USB-C cable that can carry more power, and this is the cable that it has included in the Galaxy M55 box.
Samsung could have shipped the M55 with the standard cable, as the M55 doesn't come with any charger and you get the 45W cable when you buy the official 45W travel adapter, so this is a nice gesture. Plus, an extra cable is always handy, and getting a high-speed one in the box makes it even better.
As for whether you need a 45W charger, it depends on your use case. 45W isn't all that quicker than 25W when charging from 0 to 100%, but it can make a notable difference in the first half hour or so.
Samsung isn't making any claims about how quickly the Galaxy M55 charges with a 45W charger, though our initial testing suggests that a full charge takes around 70 minutes. That's just 15 minutes faster than the Galaxy A55 charged with a 25W adapter, so we are interested in seeing if the M55 offers any serious benefit when charged at 45W.
Look forward to details on the Galaxy M55's charging capabilities and more in our review in the coming days.
