Samsung has become a force to reckon with when it comes to software updates for Android devices. The rollout of Android 13 and One UI 5.0 for various Galaxy devices is particularly impressive. Samsung has updated more than a dozen smartphones to Android 13, and it even released the update for a couple of mid-range phones before some of its flagships.
What's also interesting is how Samsung has been updating more and more devices to Android 13 and One UI 5.0 considerably ahead of schedule in many countries. In fact, Samsung hopes to complete the entire rollout of the update across the globe for all devices before 2023 begins, as we were told in our recent interview with Sally Hyesoon Jeong, the Vice President of Android Framework R&D at Samsung Electronics.
We got to learn a lot more in our interview, the entirety of which you can read here, but the revelation that the company “would like to complete the rollout within this year” was the most unexpected and welcome little nugget of info that we received. It would be a tremendous feat if Samsung could provide the update to every device in every country before 2023, and even releasing the update for every eligible Galaxy device in a limited number of countries would be impressive.
That said, as we regularly point out, and like Samsung reminded us during the interview, no one can definitely say when a particular device will get an update. But still, the fact that Samsung is even thinking about completing the rollout this year is bonkers. Whether or not it will achieve that goal remains to be seen, although given how we see One UI 5.0 arriving on a new device almost every day, it does seem like a safe bet that the Korean giant could very well succeed.
