Samsung has released a new update to the Photo Editor embedded in its Gallery app, and with it come a few other updates targeting the Object Eraser feature. Samsung introduced the AI-driven Object Eraser in January 2021 to give Galaxy smartphone users quick tools for removing photobombers and unwanted objects from their shots. And now it appears to have gotten better.
The Gallery and Photo Editor component updates don't come with a changelog. They're seamlessly updated, and Samsung hasn't detailed what might be new or what may have changed. But for what it's worth, Photo Editor just got updated to version 3.1.09.41. Alongside it, the Smart Photo Editor Engine got updated to version 1.1.00.3.
Furthermore, Samsung has updated the Object Eraser and two of its components, i.e., Shadow Eraser and Reflection Eraser. The latest updates push these components to version 1.1.00.3.
Object Eraser was already decent at launch and offered a built-in alternative to Photoshop's tools. We compared the two solutions side-by-side a couple of years ago, and Samsung's feature was able to keep up with industry-leading photo editor technologies. Now, this feature appears to have gotten even better across the board.
As we said, there are no changelogs to go by, but seeing how Samsung specifically targeted the Object Eraser, Shadow Eraser, and Reflection Eraser, we can safely that the company has worked on improving the system's AI. Ultimately, it should mean that Object Eraser now works more accurately, but we'll have to take a closer look to be sure.
