Earlier this month, Samsung India’s employees working at the company’s manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu went on an indefinite strike demanding a pay rise, equal pay for workers with similar experience, end to mandatory overtime on a regular basis, an eight-hour work schedule, and union recognition. After almost ten days, there has been some development in the matter which suggests that the strike might end soon.

Tamil Nadu’s Minister For Labour, C.V Ganesan, told NDTV that he is confident that the issue between Samsung Electronics and its employees working at the company’s manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur will be resolved soon. He said, “We can sort this out. We will do it as soon as possible. A few years ago, Foxconn workers had raised the issue of hygienic food, water, and accommodation. Now we have built for them a mega housing with accommodation for 18,000 workers. We will find a solution for this too”.

The story continues after the video…

This strike coming to an end early is crucial for Samsung as India’s festive season is on the doorstep, and the brand will see an increased demand for its products during this period. Speaking of which, last week we learned that Samsung India will lay off 10% workforce (around 200 employees) to reduce cost and maintain profits amid decreasing consumer demand. Another report that came in the same week suggested that the South Korean tech giant is going to cut down up to 30% workforce globally in some divisions.
