Samsung's ISOCELL GN5 camera sensor could be finding a home in the upcoming Series 9 smartphone series from Chinese OEM iQOO. As per fresh reports from the social network Weibo, the iQOO Series 9 smartphone series, which should be unveiled in China next month, will adopt Samsung's ISOCELL GN5 sensor.
Samsung announced the ISOCELL GN5 sensor in September. It's the company's latest 50MP shooter with a slim profile for phones that try to achieve a slicker look. As for iQOO, if this is the first time you hear about the brand, it's because it's relatively new. It was founded in China in 2019 as a Vivo subsidiary.
Back to Samsung's camera, the 50MP unit supports 2×2 pixel binning to deliver 12.5MP photos in poorly-lit environments, and it takes advantage of all-directional Dual Pixel Pro autofocus technology. The sensor measures 1./1.57 inches and has 1μm-sized pixels. It supports 8K 30fps and 4K 120fps video recording.
ISOCELL GN5 and a premium Samsung OLED display make a good pair
The 50MP sensor isn't the only component from Samsung to be used by the upcoming Series 9 from iQOO. Reports indicate that the phone will use an E5 OLED display made by Samsung Display. The panel has a 6.78-inch diagonal on the Series 9 Pro model.
A similar display technology was used by the iQOO Series 8, and it proved to be very successful. DisplayMate gave it a rating of A+ and awarded it the Best Smartphone Display Award.
