At CES 2024, Samsung unveiled the 2024 variants of the Smart Monitor M7 and the Smart Monitor M8, which carry the model numbers M70D and M80D respectively (for your reference, the 2023 variants of those monitors have model numbers M70C and M80C respectively). After almost three months, the company has finally launched both monitors, but only in South Korea as of now.

Pricing and availability

Samsung has launched the Smart Monitor M8 M80D in only one screen size, which is 31.5-inch. The company has priced it at KRW 85,00,00 (approximately USD 610). On the other hand, the South Korean tech giant has launched Smart Monitor M7 M70D in 31.5-inch and 43-inch screen sizes, and the brand has priced them at KRW 74,90,00 (approximately USD 538) and KRW 94,90,00 (approximately USD 682) respectively. While the M80D comes in only one color, Warm White, the M7 M70D comes in two colors, Black and White.

B&H Photo had listed two monitors for a brief period of time in the US and then removed the listings. The e-commerce platform had listed the 31.5-inch M70D for USD 399, the 43-inch M70D for USD 499, and the 31.5-inch M80D for USD 699.

Samsung Smart Monitor M8 M80D, Smart Monitor M7 M70D specifications

The Samsung Smart Monitor M8 M80D features a 31.5-inch VA panel with a 4K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 4ms GTG response time, up to 400 nits brightness, 72% coverage of the NTSC color gamut, and support for HDR10+. On the other hand, the Samsung Smart Monitor M7 M70D features a 31.5-inch or 43-inch VA panel depending on the model you select, with a 4K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 4ms GTG response time, up to 300 nits brightness, 72% coverage of the NTSC color gamut, and support for HDR10.

As the names suggest, the Smart Monitor M8 M80D and Smart Monitor M7 M70D are smart monitors. They feature the Tizen OS, the same platform that Samsung offers with its smart TVs. It means that these models offer many functionalities, including allowing you to install apps and letting you use them as full-fledged TVs. Being smart monitors, you also get built-in speakers, a Solar Remote, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth v5.2. The M80D has two 5W speakers and the M70D has two 10W speakers in the stereo configuration.

The M80D has 1x HDMI 2.0 port, 1x USB Type-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 65W power output over USB PD, and 2x USB Type-A 2.0 ports. Whereas, the M70D has 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, 1x USB Type-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 65W power output over USB PD, and 3x USB Type-A 2.0 ports. Apart from differences in panels, the two monitors also come with different stands. While the M80D comes with a stand that offers height, tilt, and pivot adjustment, the M70D has a stand that offers only tilt adjustment.
