Samsung mobile cloud gaming platform is live! Does hardware matter anymore?

As mobile games get bigger in size and higher in complexity, downloading them from an app store is becoming a barrier. And with more powerful graphics gaining traction across mobile gaming, good performance from your Android phone can feel like rolling the dice. Samsung is combating these problems with the launch of its mobile cloud gaming platform.

Samsung first tested its mobile cloud gaming platform last year, when it released a beta program through Gaming Hub in select regions. Today, Samsung announced that it is ready to fully commercialize the service. It is now out of beta and rolling out across North America.

If you previously used Instant Plays in the Gaming Hub app, you already have an idea of how Samsung's new mobile cloud gaming service works.

The main difference is that Instant Plays offers mini mobile games that are arguably quite forgettable, whereas the new cloud platform allows Galaxy device users to play full-fledged Android-native games instantly without downloading them.

Helping mobile gamers and publishers alike?

One other perk to cloud gaming is that the service allows players to enjoy more demanding games on all Galaxy devices — where available — without worrying about hardware limitations.

Because this is a cloud-based service, Samsung says your Galaxy phone's hardware capabilities, from the chipset to storage, are no longer a potential barrier to playing higher-end mobile games.

And, according to the company, this revolutionary mobile gaming platform is also helping game publishers get their games into the hands of more users more reliably.

For developers, Samsung offers Android native APKs, cloud-based attribution solutions, and support for existing in-game monetization models.
