In an official newsroom post, Samsung has announced that it is partnering with global technology company ABB to expand the Samsung SmartThings integration to more devices in the residential and commercial construction market.
This move helps strengthen SmartThings IoT integration with more products, making it a one-stop-shop to control or monitor connected devices. Head of IoT Business at Samsung Electronics, Chanwoo Park, said, “We are excited to build on that by partnering with ABB to expand the SmartThings experience to new customers making it easier for consumers to reduce costs and create positive environmental impact.”
With this new partnership, Samsung and ABB will be setting up cloud-to-cloud integration. This will allow customers of both ABB-free@home and Samsung SmartThings to access and control a wide range of devices. Using SmartThings, users will be able to control all devices under ABB's portfolio, including cameras, sensors, and comfort systems.
Samsung also notes that this partnership with ABB will help them build an ecosystem of smart homes and commercial buildings, integrated with smart devices, that will reduce overall energy usage.
Around 40% of the annual global carbon emissions are generated by buildings. The usage of ABB's photovoltaic inverters and chargers will not only help meet the energy consumption needs but will also reduce CO2 emissions created from other energy sources.
