Samsung has announced that it will expand the supply of 5G telecommunication equipment to Japan's leading telecom operator NTT DoCoMo. The South Korean firm will supply 5G base stations that support all major bands through which the network carrier offers its 5G services.
The companies signed the contract in March 2021 and have now expanded their agreement. Japan has a high population density, and NTT DoCoMo has over 84 million subscribers across the country. Good performance in a market like this shows how stable network communication equipment can be. Since NTT DoCoMo has renewed its contract, it shows that Samsung Network's products are dependable even in areas with dense populations.
As a part of the renewed contract, Samsung Networks will supply its new ultra-light and compact 5G radio unit that supports the 28GHz ultra-high frequency band (mmWave) and sub-6GHz 5G bands. It is just 4.5kg in weight and can be easily installed in urban and densely populated areas.
Satoshi Iwao, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics' network business in Japan, said, “The key to the mobile communication equipment market is the establishment of a long-term relationship of trust between operators and suppliers and joint investment in next-generation technologies. We will work together to advance NTT DoCoMo's 5G network by supplying excellent 5G products based on technological prowess.“
