Samsung's various overseas divisions often create some interesting advertisements with unique concepts, and one such concept has emerged from Samsung Thailand, involving a grandma in a face-off with her Gen-Z granddaughter for an ad that's promoting a Samsung air conditioner.
One might not think much of it, but the ad is objectively funny, and represents a high level of creativity that went into its making. It also makes a subtle point about how technology levels the playing field across different age groups, and that those who're in the advanced group aren't necessarily struggling to grasp modern technology.
Who knew air conditioner ads could be so funny!
The ad promotes Samsung's new WindFree air conditioners. They're fundamentally different from the old ACs that people are used to, so the company needs to bring them up to speed with what all has changed. This is particularly true for older people who may not be so quick to realize that those ACs work differently now.
However, the Grandma-fluencer's on a mission to prove to her Gen-Z granddaughter that Samsung ACs, and the world by extension, has changed and that she can sell the idea in any number of ways, some involving Hollywood movie references, and ending with an endorsement that one would expect from most reviewers on YouTube.
This is a fun and light-hearted way to promote a product while playing on themes that resonate with a lot of people. It would be nice to see this concept being replicated by Samsung in many of the other markets it serves, particularly for a lot more of these products. Imagine a funny ad like this for the upcoming foldable phones, I can bet the Grandma-fluencer can move some serious numbers!
