Last month, Samsung surprised Sonic the Hedgehog fans with an announcement that came out of left field. In partnership with SEGA, Samsung Electronics America revealed a new set of microSD cards called Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus. Those cards are now available for purchase in the USA, and Samsung has launched a limited-time sweepstakes for the latest Sonic video game.

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most beloved video game characters of all time. SEGA created it as a mascot to rival Nintendo's Mario, and Sonic games were the perfect showcase for the power of SEGA's 16-bit consoles in the 1990s.

Although SEGA no longer creates gaming hardware, Sonic the Hedgehog endured and even thrived in recent years. The icon continues to be featured in video games and even has its very own movie franchise.

Needless to say, Samsung appears to be a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. The new microSD card series is available in four storage configurations, each themed after a Sonic the Hedgehog character.

  • 128GB Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus featuring a red icon of Knuckles — $23.
  • 256GB Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus featuring a yellow icon of Tails — $36.
  • 512GB Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus featuring a blue icon of Sonic — $68.
  • 1TB Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus featuring a black icon of Shadow — $125.

Don't want a new microSD? You can still win a Sonic video-game

Eligible customers in the USA who buy one of these new Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD cards before February 27 will also be automatically entered into the Samsung Sonic Memory Card sweepstakes.

The winner will receive the Sonic X Shadow Generations video game in the form of a redeemable Steam code.

Even better, there is another method to participate in the sweepstakes that doesn't require you to buy a Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD card. All you have to do is send Samsung a sheet of paper containing your name, address, email, and phone number to enter the contest. More details here.
