Suspecting faulty Galaxy Watch hardware or software? Run these tests

Tips & Tricks

Samsung Galaxy smartwatch users can run diagnostics to figure out if their wearables suffer from faulty hardware or software issues. Samsung offers diagnostic tools for Galaxy Watch 5 and 4 smartphones, just like it does for Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

These smartwatch diagnostic tools are easy to access and work much like they do on other Galaxy devices. You get a set of buttons associated with different hardware and software features, and once tapped, each button runs a test to determine whether or not everything works as intended. Here's all you need to know to diagnose your Galaxy Watch 5.

Checking if your Samsung smartwatch is faulty

While diagnostics tools for Galaxy phones and tablets can be found inside the Settings app, you'll need the Galaxy Wearable app to diagnose Galaxy smartwatches. You may also have to install the tools before you can use them.

To diagnose the Galaxy Watch 5, open the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone or tablet. Then go to “Watch settings” and access “Battery and device care.” Next, tap “Diagnostics” and select your Galaxy Watch.

If this is the first time you perform diagnostic tests on your Galaxy Watch, you need to install the diagnostics software on your smartwatch. Tap the “Install” button and wait for the process to complete.

Now, tap the “Get started” button. If that fails, you'll be returned to the previous screen where you can select your Galaxy Watch. Doing so will lead you to the diagnostics page. From there, you can test the following parameters:

  • Battery status
  • Power restart status
  • Official software
  • Check for updates
  • Sensors
  • Wi-Fi
  • Location accuracy
  • Touch screen
  • Buttons
  • Speaker
  • Vibration
  • Mic
  • Wireless charging
  • Wrist detection
  • Notification

Tap the buttons to test your Galaxy Watch 5 for faulty hardware or software issues. Each test Samsung offers should give you a summary of the hardware or software status.
