Tesla has announced that the company will start delivering the Cybertruck on November 30, 2023. To commemorate the commencement of deliveries, the brand will hand over the first set of pickup trucks to customers at the Cybertruck Delivery Event that’s taking place at the company’s Giga factory in Austin, Texas. At this event, Tesla is also expected to announce revised pricing of the Cybertruck, which was originally set at $39,900.
Deliveries of Tesla Cybertruck have been delayed by two years
Tesla announced the Cybertruck in 2019. Back then, the company said that it would start delivering the pickup truck by the end of 2021. However, the production of the pickup truck was delayed multiple times as the company faced difficulties in sourcing components for the vehicle. That’s because the Cybertruck has a unique design that’s reportedly very hard to manufacture. The production was also delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During Tesla’s earnings call yesterday, Elon Musk said “We dug our own grave with the Cybertruck”. “Cybertruck's one of those special products that comes along only once in a long while. And special products that come along once in a long while are just incredibly difficult to bring to market to reach volume, to be prosperous,” he added.
People will have to wait 2-3 years to get the pickup truck
According to Elon, Tesla will be able to manufacture around 250,000 Cybertrucks every year starting in 2024. He confirmed that more than one million people have reserved the pickup truck so far. It means that many people who have booked the Cybertruck will have to wait at least two to three years to get the vehicle. As such, Elon has asked people to contain their excitement about the commencement of Cybertruck’s deliveries.
