As an official IOC (International Olympic Committee) sponsor, Samsung and its latest mobile devices are at the front and center of the 2024 Olympics. You may have noticed this even if you're not a big Samsung fan, considering that many Olympians took selfies on the podium — a first in the event's history — using the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition.
But little did we know that there are even more Galaxy devices at play. The IOC and the OBS (Olympic Broadcast Service) are using no fewer than 15,000 Samsung products to ensure that 2024 Olympic Games operations go smoothly.
These devices are unrelated to the $20 million worth of Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition phones Samsung gifted to Olympians last month. As it turns out, even more Samsung devices play a role in the 2024 Olympic Games experience.
Galaxy devices of all kinds are in use everywhere
Samsung says 15,000 Galaxy products, ranging from laptops to smartphones, are used during the Olympic Games to manage the game ticketing system, verify the identity of stadium staff, and manage broadcasting systems.
The latter might not take you by surprise if you know that the opening ceremony was partly streamed from Galaxy S24 Ultras or that the same phones captured videos from sailing events. But there's more to it than that.
According to Samsung, IOC and OBC staff use many other Galaxy devices to run Olympic operations smoothly. Employees are assisted by 5,000 Galaxy Book laptops, 3,000 Galaxy tablets, and 7,000 Galaxy smartphones.
Director of the Paris Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Marie Rose Bruno, said, “[…] The organic system of Galaxy products and software allows us to efficiently handle inquiries from Olympic fans as well as operate the Olympics, providing a better big event experience.”
Aside from the ecosystem features, we're guessing that the secure Samsung Knox platform also plays a big role in making all this possible effortlessly.
