You can now edit a post on Threads after publishing it. That’s right. Meta has added an edit button to posts on the Instagram-based social media platform, a feature that many people have been requesting for a very long time. Using the edit button, you can edit a post on Threads within five minutes of publishing it. After that, you will not be able to see the edit option. The new feature is rolling out on Threads' mobile app for Android and iOS as well as on the web version.
X (formerly known as Twitter), which is the main rival of Threads, also offers the ability to edit a post after making it live. However, this feature is available only to users with the Premium membership, which costs $8 every month. The edit option on Threads, fortunately, is free, which means that it is accessible to everyone. That being said, X allows editing a post up to 30 minutes after publishing it, which is a lot more than the time limit of 5 minutes on Threads.
Threads won’t show you edit history
Reportedly, Threads will not show you a history of edits that were made to a post. Instead, it will just put an indicator at the top of the post to let you know if it has been edited or not. The announcement about the edit button on Threads was made by Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, in a post on the social media platform. Along with it, he also announced Voice Threads, a feature that allows you to attach an audio clip to a post. This feature, however, is yet to go live for everyone.
Author’s Note: Twitter added the edit option to posts almost sixteen years after the inception of the platform. Meta, on the other hand, added the edit option to Threads within one year of launching it. While it may seem like Meta is doing a much better job than Twitter, you need to consider that Meta has Twitter to learn from. Twitter had no other platform like it from which the company could take inspiration. That being said, Threads seems to be going on the right path.
