Samsung has released the September 2023 security update to the carrier-locked versions of Galaxy S21 series phones in the US. Yesterday, the factory-unlocked versions of the smartphones received the new security update in the US. The global versions of the smartphones have also received the new security update.
Factory-unlocked Galaxy S21 units get September 2023 security update
The latest software update for the unlocked versions of Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with firmware version G991U1UES9EWI1 in the US. The update brings the September 2023 security patch and nothing else, so don't expect to see any new features or a performance uplift. The new security patch fixes over 60 security vulnerabilities, as reported by Samsung.
If you have an unlocked version of a Galaxy S21 series phone and you live in the US, you can now check for the new update. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series two years ago with Android 11 onboard. The phones in the lineup received the Android 12 update in late 2021 and the Android 13 update in late 2022. The devices have already received the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 beta update in some countries, and the stable update might arrive in a couple of months.
