Last week, Samsung released the Android 14 update to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the US. However, the update was limited to the carrier-locked versions of the foldable smartphones. Now, the company has released the stable Android 14 update to the factory-unlocked models of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
More Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 units get Android 14 update in the US
The Android 14 update for the unlocked Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes with firmware version F731U1UEU1BWK9, while the one for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes bearing firmware version F946U1UEU1BWK9. These updates are now available in the US on all carrier networks.
To check for the new update, you can navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually.
This is a big software update, so it is advised that you back up all your important files and download the update via a Wi-Fi network. This is the first big software update for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which were launched with Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 onboard. They will get three more major Android OS updates in the future.
What's new in One UI 6.0?
One UI 6.0 is based on Android 14, and it brings several new features and design improvements. It brings a brand-new Quick Panel layout, a new font, all new emojis, a new media player widget with waveform animation, and new font and placement options for the lock screen clock widget.
All the stock apps have been improved. The camera app now has a simpler layout, while the built-in image and video editors now have more prominent controls. The built-in video editor has been renamed to Video Studio and has the ability to save drafts. Objects from images and videos can be clipped and saved as stickers in the Samsung Keyboard app.
