While Samsung is still the world's biggest smartphone brand, the situation isn't the same in India. The company has been pushed down to third place in India's growing smartphone market, and that isn't good news.

Vivo becomes India's biggest smartphone brand in Q3 2024; overtakes Samsung

According to the recent numbers from market research firm Canalys, Vivo was India's biggest smartphone brand in Q3 2024. The company shipped 9.1 million smartphones during the period and captured a 19% share of the market. Xiaomi ranked second with 7.8 million shipments and a 17% share of the market.

Samsung shipped 7.5 million smartphones in India during Q3 2024 and captured a 16% share of the market. That is a 4% drop in shipments compared to last year. Vivo's shipments increased 26%, while Xiaomi had 3% growth. OPPO, which ranked fourth with 6.3 million shipments, saw a staggering 43% growth compared to Q3 2023.

Samsung Smartphone Market Share India Q3 2024 Canalys

Realme shipped 5.3 million smartphones in India during the third quarter of 2024, capturing an 11% share of the market. Other brands collectively shipped 11.1 million smartphones with a 24% market share.

Overall, 47.1 million smartphones were shipped in India during Q3 2024, 9% higher than Q3 2023. Despite the overall growth of the market, Samsung failed to capitalize on it despite the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 during the third quarter. Hopefully, the company will see increased sales in Q4 2024 due to the festive season.
